BASIC CRUISING ​STANDARD

Our goal

We will study terms, commands, and operation of a sailboat to become a confident sailboat skipper with a Sail Canada certification.

Group size and duration

Groups of 2 to 4 people will complete this course. Basic Cruising Standard course is 30 hours of instruction, including 20 hours of coached sailing, 8 hours of sailing theory, and a 2 hour written exam.

Materials and exams

We will use the Sail Canada text book “Basic Cruising Skills” by Gillian West. Your time sailing will culminate in one practical sailing exam and one in-class written exam. If you wish for the learning material to be mailed to you please send your mailing address.

Price

    • $850 per person plus:
    • Sail Canada text book “Basic Cruising Skills” – $35 incl. HST.
    • Sail  Canada certification only if pass all the tests and exam – $40 incl. HST.
    • If you wish for the learning material to be mailed to you please send your mailing address and $20 postage.
    • It is possible for students of the Basic Cruising course to study together with the Start Keelboat Sailing course students in mixed groups.

Prerequisites

The Introduction to Sailing or Start Keelboat Sailing course is recommended for people who never sailed before.

Schedule

Every weekday and weekends lessons start at 10:00. Normally, there will be no lessons on Mondays. 
On Weekends:    First block 10:00 to 12:00
Second block 13:00 to 15:00
On Weekdays:    First block 10:00 to 12:00
Second block 13:00 to 15:00
Third block 16:00 to 18:00

On Wednesdays there will be no lessons from 16:00 to 18:00 due to club racing day at APSC.

Basic Cruising Standard Course can be booked as one block per day, so that one day session will be 5 hours long.
You can customize the schedule to suit the group.

Because places are limited for the summer months, please register early.

To confirm your registration and reserve your time please transfer 50% of the price per person by Interac transfer to alexeip1@yahoo.ca. The remaining part of the fee is due on the course start date.
