​START KEELBOAT SAILING​ STANDARD

A happy and competent crewOur goal

We will study basic terms, commands, and operation of a sailboat to feel comfortable and competent as a crew member.
If you are new to sailing this course is highly recommended before you take Basic Cruising Standard course.

Group size and duration

Groups of 2 to 4 people will complete this course. The Start Keelboat course is 18 hours of instruction including 12 hours of coached sailing, 4 hours of sailing theory, and a 2 hour written exam review.

Materials and exams

We will use the Sail Canada textbook “Basic Cruising Skills” by Gillian West.

Your time sailing will culminate in one practical sailing exam and one open book written exam.

Proof of COVID19 vaccination REQUIRED unless the students are from the same household. Masks are required for indoor lessons. 

Starting September 22, 2021 the school will operate for about 4 weeks on the following schedule:

  • Weekday lessons start at 10:00. Unfortunately, there will be no lessons on weekends until few details clarified.

  • First block 10:00 to 12:00, Second block 13:00 to 15:00, Third block 16:00 to 18:00

  • Start Keel Boat Sailing Course, can be booked as two consecutive blocks so that one day session will be 5 hours long. 

  • Conflicts of booking will be resolved as best as possible with the students and instructor participation. 

Price

$450 per person It is possible for students of the Start Keelboat course to study together with the Basic Cruising course students in mixed groups.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites.

Because places are limited for the summer months, please register early.

To confirm your registration and reserve your time please transfer $225 by Interac transfer to alexeip1@yahoo.ca. The remaining part of the fee is due on the course start date. You can customize the schedule to suit the group.
